Survival

(This is the post I'm supposed to post days ago...)

It’s already the fifth day ever since my arrival at Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The weather over here is currently 18 degree and is expected to drop as winter approaches. The nice temperature of autumn make me fell in love with Chengdu. It was as if you are walking in a town built with air-conditional.

Classes had actually started this week but we are still busy doing our documentation stuff. Luckily we managed to sign contract for our apartment yesterday. At least we can settle down and don’t have to stay in the temporary hotel or carrying our stuff here and there like some homeless people.

Sichuan University is indeed a big university. I remember I got lost once without knowing that the taxi driver dropped me at the opposite campus. I even called my senior for the direction. At the end, I have to refer to the map and get my way back. What an embarrassment. Most of the time, we just have to travel from one block to another block. This is what you call a big campus which has the so-called mamak stall (where we had our ice-cream regardless the cold windy weather), football field, stadium, canteen (nice and cheap food!) and so on. The building structure over there is based on the ancient china building design which I find it very attractive.

Although today is the first day of our anatomy (lecture) class, I was forced to skip the lesson and go to hospital to do my health check up. I couldn’t stop laughing when I mention about the health check up. Originally, I thought I am the one who has to redo my health check up but who knows, my roommate Joanna become the pity one who has to redo despite of her very DETAIL health report. Well, how detail it is? I am not going to answer that before she chokes me.

Talking about today’s anatomy practical class that I manage to join in later, you will never believe that we were actually given life cadaver to observe on the very first lesson. It’s a little bit disguising and smelly with the chemical smell but you get to see the real human structures like joints and bones! The cadavers was only left with upper body and the intestines inside can be seen from the bottom. From what I heard from my senior, we will have our chance to dissect on cadavers later. Awesome anatomy class!

The command of English over here is definitely not very good. They tend to have their strong Manglish ascent. I do have to admit that, sometimes it’s harder to understand. Other than anatomy class, all the classes in first semester seem a bit boring. I have to attend the Chinese class which teaches primary school standard Chinese, Chinese Medical which also focuses on basic writing and reading and Math that keeps on repeating the same point from the first day although the lecturer is funny. Anyway, it will always be advantages for Chinese since we had already know the basic of it.
